Style of Making Coffee

Espresso and Cappuccino
Now we are talking good coffee, if you have ever had a good espresso or cappuccino made using a espresso machine not from Tim Hortons you will know what I'm talking about. An espresso machine is a very expensive piece of equipment it works by forcing high pressure steam though very finely ground coffee grinds extracting the most flavour possible form the bean. This steam condensates and drips into a tiny cup. Cappuccino is made using an espresso and adding frothed milk.

I know your thinking what is frothed milk I asked the same thing the first time I had to make a coffee on one of these machines. Basically you pour the mild into a jug, place a spout into the jug steam comes out of this spout thus aerating the milk giving it a frothy consistency. You must be careful not to over heat the milk as you can burn it if it becomes too hot.
The Plunger
This method withdraws the most flavour form the coffee beans. Ground beans are placed in the pot with hot water poured on top the pot is left to stand for several minutes. The plunger is then pushed down separating the coffee grinds from the coffee. This method has only recently become popular in Canada even though it was invented in 1933 strange.
Turkish coffee
Turkish coffee is made in an Arabia (copper pot) coffee grinds are added to the pot along with sugar and water and brought to a boil. It is then taken off the heat left to simmer and then replaced on the stove. This process is repeated usually three times. The boiling of coffee causes some of the flavour to be lost. Filtered method I think most people will be familiar with this method. It is by far the most common way to brew coffee. Ground coffee beans are placed in a paper filter and hot water is dripped over into a pot and then served.
Instant coffee
The quality of instant coffee's have improved greatly since the 1980's when it was first marketed to consumers. Instant coffee actually stays fresher longer, moisture oxygen and light don't affect the flavours as much and it is incredibly convenient. To make instant coffee the coffee flavours are extracted using hot water then the water is removed by heat or by a freezing process producing the powder. Coffee essences are often replaced after the process is completed.
Now.... What style do you like to making coffee ??
