The Best of the Best Coffee

Island of St. Helena Coffee Company

Third on the prestigious list of the most internationally sought after coffees is coffee grown in the Island of St. Helena. This coffee was discovered and brought initially to Paris during Napoleon's term of exile in the island. St. Helena's coffee is made from a unique type of bean known as Green Tipped Bourbon Arabica, and is known for its exclusive flavor. St. Helena coffee is valued at an average of  US$ 174  per kilograms.

Hawaiian Kona Coffee

Last but certainly not least is Hawaiian Kona Coffee, for its prized and delicious flavor. Kona Coffee is a variety of coffee grown on the slopes of mountains in the Big Island of Hawaii. The Kona District's brilliant sunny mornings, humid, rainy afternoons and temperate nights create ideal coffee growing conditions, making Kona Coffee one of the most sought-after types in the world. Kona coffee is creamy and smooth, with the rich, almost-chocolaty taste. It is well balanced, with slight acidity and medium-body. It has an enticing aroma and somewhat complex, spicy flavor. Hawaiian Kona averages at about US$ 74.9  per kilograms.

Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee

The fourth contestant on the list of the top five most delicious coffees is Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.  As its namesake suggests, Jamaican coffee is grown in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, and is known for its mild flavor and lack of bitterness. Over the decades, this coffee has become prized and revered worldwide and has become one of the most sought after coffees in the world. The climate of the Blue Mountain region in Jamaica is cool and foggy with high rainfall, with rich soil is very rich. Blue Mountain coffee averages at US$ 108 per kilograms.

Hacendia La Esmeralda

Hacienda La Esmeralda comes second in the list of most expensive coffees. It is grown on a rare plant called a geisha tree, found in Boquete, Panama. The geisha tree was once ignored, as it grew few coffee beans, and was used to anchor the soil around plantations. Only a few decades ago it was rediscovered and its coffee tried on a whim-when its true specialty recognized. Hacienda la Esmeralda coffee is known for its intense flavor of jasmine and citrus with blueberry. Each brew seems to have a unique flavor-each more intricate and delicious than the last. Hacienda la Esmeralda averages at US$ 229 per kilograms.

Kopi Luwak

Kopi Luwak has made itself known to be the most expensive, most delicious, and most sought after coffee in the whole world. Kopi Luwak coffee beans are not picked from the coffee plant however, but from the feces of a raccoon-like animal called an Asian Palm Civet in Indonesia and the Philippines. These civets consume coffee berries, but the beans remain undigested and pass through the civet's digestive tract. Once a predictable spot of defecation is observed, coffee collectors extract the beans from the excrement, heavily wash, purify, and sun dry them. Kopi Luwak is sold for as much as US$ 450-500 per kilograms -and is said to be worth it, because of its unique taste.
